Bigtooth Maple (Acer grandidentatum)
Not all maples are created equal—and Bigtooth Maple proves it.
This is the prairie’s answer to bold fall drama. Thick, rugged leaves ignite into fiery shades of red, orange, and gold, putting on a show that rivals anything you’d see out east—without the high maintenance attitude.
Tough, drought-tolerant, and built for real-world landscapes, Bigtooth Maple thrives where other “pretty” trees tap out. It’s compact enough for urban yards, but strong enough to stand alone as a statement piece.
Plant it if you want:
🔥 Unreal fall color without babysitting
🌿 A hardy, adaptable shade tree
🏡 A yard that doesn’t look like everyone else’s
- Mature Size: 28ft x 18ft

Growing requirements in Alberta: This maple is one of the most water thrifty available after it is established. Tree does well in any type of soil but will grow quickest in moist, well drained top soil and clay.
