Yucca Filamentosa - Summer Delivery

Growing the Yucca Filamensota 'Adam's Needle' in central Alberta started as a pet project for our company. We had no clue what the outcome would be but this plant has been extremely hardy. The plant keeps green leaves all year but they stiffen up in the winter and soften in spring when the temperature warms. It has been in the ground for multiple years and flowered last year after taking a winter with -45c lows and no snow cover here in St. Paul zone 2! This yucca should do fantastic in Edmonton where the lows of the winter are normally much warmer. Snow cover is a massive help if you do not want any burn on the edges of the leaves but it has survived fine without snow. The Yucca Filamenosta is the perfect xeriscape plant that needs almost zero water after it is established. Growing instructions: Dig a hole an extra 6 inches deep and fill it with 3/4" rock so the roots will not rot in the winter. You can use rock and topsoil mixed to fill around the plant. Do not overwater! The Yucca Filamentosa will do great when you set it and forget it after the first month or two of watering.
Adam’s Needle Yucca — The Prairie Experiment That Won 🌵
We didn’t plant this one because it was safe… we planted it to see if it would survive. No guarantees. No roadmap. Just a test. And it crushed it.
The Adam’s Needle Yucca (Yucca filamentosa) has taken Alberta winters, -45°C lows, and no snow cover—and came back thriving. Sharp, architectural leaves give your yard a desert edge, and summer brings massive, unmistakable flower spikes 🌼.
Once established, ignore it. No watering schedules. No babysitting. Just plant it and let it perform.
Rebel take: We tested it so you don’t have to.
Mature Size: 3' x 3'
Why it belongs in your yard:
- Proven survivor at -45°C (even without snow 👀)
- Evergreen structure = year-round impact
- Massive, exotic flower spikes 🌼
- Perfect for rock gardens + xeriscaping
- Zero-maintenance once established
- One of the toughest plants you can own
Rebel tip: Drainage is everything—dig 6" deeper, add ¾" rock, water only for the first month or two.

Growing Requirements in Alberta: Set it and forget it. The plant will do best with 4 inches of small rock at the bottom of the hole below the roots so they won't be sitting in water. Plant in well draining soil. Water only once weekly for the first couple months and any supplemental water will not be necessary.
