Oak - Streetspire

The unique, columnar oak tree is a hybrid of White Oak and English Oak. This tree has slowly been catching fire around the city as Millcreek Nursery was the first one to bring it in and trial it and found success. The tree is a perfect fit for a smaller front yard or privacy hedge. The tough leathery oak leaves can handle anything thrown their way. In late autumn, they will turn rusty or brick red, which is a fantastic feature in a columnar tree and hard to find. The leaves will stay on the tree well into winter, which offers a cool perk you typically won't find on trees in Alberta.

This oak will greatly benefit from supplemental water for the first few summers until the roots are established. It is very important to water the roots when there are dry spells. The tree is native to climates that typically get much more rain than Alberta. A mulch bowl will protect the roots in the winter but keep the mulch off the trunk to prevent rot. Do not fertilize past early July.
